I was in New York Monday for the close of internet week and work. I woke up early for a press event at Victoria's Secret so that I'd have a few minutes to myself before the day started. I got up at 7, which actually feels like sleeping in... it's crazy how early you have to get up when you have a baby! I stopped for some breakfast on the way to the store -- my favorite, a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and a cappuccino with extra foam. With a full stomach and the extra kick of caffeine, I was ready to start hair and make-up. I had a photo op with Doutzen (Doutzen Kroes) for the launch of the Victoria's Secret Facebook Fan page. We played around a bit on the website to see what fans had written us followed by a poking war with the foam fingers from the photo shoot (we couldn't help ourselves).

By the time I left the store, I was already in need of another coffee break, so I picked up my second cappuccino at Starbucks on the way to my next meeting. I had a few hours of downtime in the afternoon so I headed back to my apartment for lunch with my sister. I love having her around... she's my biggest supporter and best friend. She made a huge salad for us and then joined me for my afternoon yoga class. I always try to get yoga in when I have some time to myself because it can get so crazy with my daughter Anja around. I made a call home to check in on her and then took a quick nap to re-energize before the night. I woke up around 4pm to find Doutzen outside my apartment door. It was already time for touch ups. I hosted a little beauty party in my apartment with our hair and make-up team helping us get ready for the Webby Awards later that night. I chose the most beautiful white Pierre Balmain dress with silver detailing on the top. I loved my dress...it makes a statement and you can't help but feel a little bit like a princess in it!

We accepted the People's Voice Webby Award for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Online Video Series. Since the fans themselves voted on this award, winning it felt like such an honor. I had a great time but by the end of the night I was definitely ready to get back home and just lounge on the couch. Not a bad way to end the day ;)

In case you don’t live in Internetland and weren’t aware, last night was the 13th Annual Webby Awards.

It was full of the typical Internet guys, but, of course, there were some guest appearances. Martha Stewart introduced Biz Stone (given her new love for Twitter), Seth Myers hosted, and Isabella Rossellini accepted an award for her work on the Sundance show Green Porno.

But the real surprise for all those nerdy boys, we’re sure, was the fact that Alessandra Ambrosio and Doutzen Kroes showed up to accept the Victoria’s Secret People’s Voice Award in the Fashion category. The girls spent the whole day together promoting the new Victoria’s Secret Facebook fan page, and then appropriately continued the Internet-focused day, causing countless mouths to drop at the event. Balloons, a delicious dinner of fish and oyster risotto, plenty of champagne to go around, and an extravagant cake (more on this later) capped off the intimate night. It may be a faux pas to ask a lady her age, but Motta had nothing to hide (and with good reason--have you seen her?). "At midnight, I'll be 28!" she said. "There's a club downstairs, so we'll go to the club, and then maybe I'll go to the Hamptons this weekend to celebrate." The model had more to celebrate than just her birthday, though; as one of the owners of the restaurant, she was also welcoming the a brand-new chef. "We used to have a sort of African style, and now it's more of a Mediterranean style," she said, tucking into the first course.

Guests like Lorenzo Martone (conspicuously missing Marc!) and Julie Henderson were smart to save some room for dessert, though. Post-meal, the restaurant staff carried out an enormous, 5-level cake complete with sparklers and candles galore. "It doesn't mean that I'm old!" she laughed as she posed with Ambrosio and attempted to blow out the myriad candles. "It's the opposite!"

A lot has changed in two years. While fashion magazines and retail brands still market their wares with stars from music and movies, models have moved off the runway in equal measure, expanding their brands into fashion, entertainment and philanthropy. The age of the multi-hyphenate model has replaced the age of the supermodel, giving the top girls more earning power than ever before.

A perfect example is the No. 2 earner on our list, Heidi Klum. While still a successful model at the age of 35 after having three kids, the majority of Klum's earnings are driven by her TV and endorsement career. Klum remains a member of the Victoria's Secret angel entourage as well as host of Project Runway and Germany's Next Top Model. The German beauty also designs a line Birkenstock sandals and has endorsement deals with Diet Coke, Volkswagen, McDonald's and LG. Last year, she came out with her own skincare line, In An Instant.

Returning at No. 1 this year is Gisele Bündchen, who earned an estimated $25 million in the last year from numerous campaigns including Versace, True Religion jeans, Dior and Ebel watches. The Brazilian model has rare range--from high fashion to mass market--and measured impact on the success of the brands she represents. She also has her own Brazilian shoe line and tabloid fame on par with movie stars.

The models on our list were ranked according to estimated earnings from June 2008 to June 2009.

The modeling industry was hard-hit by the economic crisis. Prominent fashion labels canceled or downgraded their runway shows, leaving models hoping for a break with fewer opportunities. Declining revenues at major beauty and retail companies left agents with less leverage to bargain for their clients.

But, the economy has increased the value of the versatile yet trademark beauty of those at the top of the industry. "After a few years of mixed results where the sole obsession was attaching the biggest name or celebrity to your brand, companies are searching for that face that won't muddle their message," says Chris Gay, president of Marilyn Agency, which represents Adriana Lima. "The models that possess that beauty are the faces everyone wants right now, but that's a rare beauty."

The most successful models, including those who have cycled on and off this list, are able to evoke an emotional consumer response. While celebrities hawk everything from cotton underwear to Smart Water, only professional models can walk the Victoria's Secret runway with inimitable perfection and enough accessibility to get plain Janes across the world into the stores. While the uber-successful make millions, the majority make very little compared to the impact they have on the retail economy.

"These are young business professionals at the height of their game, rarer than superstar athletes, who are in an incredibly competitive environment and who have to deliver their skill set at any time day or night," says Ed Razek, president and chief marketing officer of Limited Brands, the parent company of Victoria's Secret. "These are people who can connect to consumers and move product."

As with years previous, the changes on the list illustrate the cyclical nature of the modeling business. The loss of a major contract can have a huge impact on overall earnings, as in the case of Karolina Kurkova, who dropped off our list after her Victoria's Secret contract expired.

Bündchen, though still No. 1, earned $10 million less with the loss of Victoria's Secret and other contracts. Kate Moss' earnings climbed $1 million based on the continued success of her clothing line for the British chain Topshop and several deal renewals.

This year's new girl is Emanuela De Paula at No. 11, who broke through as the face of U.K. retailer Next and is featured prominently in Victoria's Secret campaigns.

Há 10 anos elas povoam o imaginário de todo o mundo exibindo seus corpos esculturais, vestidos apenas por sensuais lingeries, algumas adornadas por asas, em desfiles transmitidos pela TV. São as angels da grife Victoria's Secret, que anualmente realizam uma das apresentações mais esperadas do universo.

Trata-se do Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, cuja primeira exibição nas telinhas ocorreu em 1999 e que começou a transformar a marca em uma das mais cobiçadas pelas mulheres (afinal quem não quer se sentir uma "angel"?). O evento televisivo tornou-se tão tradicional nos Estados Unidos como o SuperBowl (a final da liga do campeonato de futebol americano).

Enquanto as modelos, com ou sem asas, apresentam as provocantes peças, acontece um show musical. Em 2001, com o tenor pop italiano Andrea Bocelli, o programa foi assistido por 12,5 mi de pessoas. A audiência do primeiro, em 1999, foi de aproximadamente 1,5 mi de telespectadores. E, em 2007, com o retorno das Spicy Girls, 7,4 mi de pessoas ficaram grudados na tela.

O nome
O nome "angel" surgiu exatamente porque, durante os desfiles, as principais modelos da grife ostentam asas. A figura das angels surgiu em 1998, mas os desfiles da marca, sem a transmissão pela TV e sem as "anjas", haviam começado em meados dos anos 1990. E as brasileiras representam muito bem a grife. Para o próximo desfile, entre novembro e dezembro, já estão confirmadas as presença de Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrósio e Emanuela de Paula. Raquel Zimmermann e Carol Trentini ainda não confirmaram.

Caroline Ribeiro, Ana Claudia Michels, Anna Hickmann, Marcelle Bittar e Isabeli Fontana, entre outras, também já representaram a grife. Ambrósio - Até agora não tive nenhum problema com isso. Pelo contrário, os jornalistas sempre elogiaram o meu corpo.

Terra - Como é desfilar depois de ser mãe, mudou alguma coisa?
Ambrósio - Sim. Agora mais que nunca após cada trabalho fico louca para voltar pra casa para fica mais perto da a minha filha (Anja).

Speaking of her baby, Miss Ambrosio recently revealed during an interview how much motherhood has changed her. “I’m not thinking about me that much anymore. Every time I look, I’m looking for my daughter, you know? If I’m in a store, I’m looking at baby clothes. It’s so much cuter to find things for her than to find things for me. That’s one thing.”

As for getting back into pre-baby shape, she said she’s been, “Working out, eating really healthy. Now I’m in my normal routine. I try to do yoga once a week. Basically, that’s it right now. I’m back to my normal eating. Fries, barbecue, but I also like to eat healthy.”

Mas, graças a Deus, nada disso aconteceu na 12ª Feijoada do Cacau, realizada, pela primeira vez, no Canal da Barra da Lagoa, num lugar de cinema (veja as fotos no caderno Aconteceu). Gente linda, educada, carinhosa, animada, gente que foi para ajudar, porque quem faz o sucesso desta festa são as pessoas. Do bem. Estavam lá muitos famosos, como a top model internacional Alessandra Ambrosio, a cantora e dançarina Greetchen, os ex-jogadores Vampeta, Paulo Cesar Caju, Lico, Renato Sá e Alexandre Lopes, o fenômeno Guga Kuerten, o governador Luiz Henrique, o prefeito Dário Berger e seu vice João Batista, João Rodrigues (prefeito de Chapecó), o ex-governador Esperidião Amin e a mulher, deputada federal Angela Amin, senadora Ideli Salvatti, o secretário Gilmar Knaesel, o presidente da Câmara de Vereadores, Gean Loureiro, entre outras tantas personalidades da política e do Judiciário, empresários bem sucedidos, mulheres espetaculares, cantores, artistas, jornalistas, amigos, turistas. - Você tem uma ligação muito estreita com o Brasil. Pretende criar a Anja por aqui ou vai ficar em Los Angeles?
- Com o meu trabalho, não tenho como me mudar para cá agora, minha vida está lá fora, tenho que continuar! Ela será criada em Los Angeles, mas vai aprender português, até porque a babá que cuida dela é brasileira. Faço questão de que ela aprenda as duas línguas.

- Anja Louise não é um nome muito comum. Como foi que o escolheram?
- Demorei vários meses para escolher. Comprei muitos livros de bebês e de significados de nomes. Aí gostei de Anja Louise, achei que fica fácil e bonito, tanto em inglês como em português.

- Como é o Jamie pai?
- Superbabão! Ele se derrete pela filha e tem mais jeito com ela do que eu. (risos) Dá mamadeira, troca e brinca o tempo todo com ela. A brincadeira preferida é de cavalinho, Anja se diverte!

Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio is the centerpiece during the Russell James book launch held at Stephan Weiss Studio in NYC. His larger-than-life photographs of her adorn the walls as the sounds of the didgeridoo echo throughout the event space.

The Brazillian-born stunner, 27, is engaged to Jaime Mazur and mom to daughter Anja, five months.

In this interview, Alessandra talks about motherhood, her fiancé, losing the baby weight, why Jessica Simpson should feel comfortable in her own skin and why she wants to raise her daughter in both Brazil and America.

How has motherhood changed you?
